Kevin Symons, Assoc. AIA
Senior Associate, Mackey Mitchell Architects
Kevin Symons is a Senior Associate at Mackey Mitchell Architects.
Kevin’s background as a Deaf graduate of the Illinois School for the Deaf and the National Technical Institute for the Deaf at RIT has provided Mackey Mitchell with over 15 years of valuable insight into programming and design for projects involving diverse stakeholder groups with varying human abilities. His innovative design ideas, shaped by his years of service on boards and committees of Deaf institutions, guest appearances educating Deaf students about architecture, and active involvement within the Deaf community, engage with current trends and methodologies in Deaf Education. Having transitioned from a mainstreamed program to a Deaf school in his youth, and currently as a parent of a child with low-vision and autism, Kevin brings first-hand knowledge of the critical role a sensory-balanced learning environment plays in a student’s growth to achieve academic and social potential.
CIDIE Role: Kevin brings thoughtful expertise in designing user-centered environments and champions CIDIE adoption across the architecture industry.
